The Story Behind the Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival has been celebrated in China for generations and is closely associated with the full moon, family reunion, and the traditional legend of Chang’e.
According to the well-known legend, the archer Hou Yi received an elixir of immortality after shooting down nine suns. His wife, Chang’e, later took the elixir and flew to the moon, where she is traditionally associated with the Jade Rabbit.
Over time, the full moon became an important symbol of reunion and togetherness.
Today, families and friends celebrate the festival by admiring the full moon, sharing mooncakes, and spending time together.
