How to Maintain Your Aluminum Carabiner—5 Quick Tips to Extend Its Lifespan
“Your gear is your lifeline, so every detail counts.”
A carabiner may look simple, but to the climbers, mountaineers, rescuers, and more who rely on it—it means so much more. It represents safety, trust, and endurance under pressure. That trust goes beyond manufacturing and requires proper care.
1. Avoid overloading
Every carabiner has a strength rating for a reason. Our mountaineering carabiners are made from high-strength 7075 aluminum alloy and can withstand over 20KN.
Every carabiner has a range of weights it can bear, and using it beyond this limit, or relying on a carabiner that does not provide the weight rating, can lead to failure. Adhering to these ratings is not only a smart move, but also a responsible act.
2. Keep clean and store properly
Dirt, moisture and salt can affect performance, especially in the gate lock mechanism. After use, especially in sand, mud or at the seaside, gently wipe the surface and spring with a cloth. Store in a cool and dry place – high temperatures, direct sunlight or chemicals will gradually reduce its durability.
* After use in sand, sea water or rain, wipe clean and dry
* Store in a cool place away from high temperatures or chemicals
*Wash with soapy water, but remember to wipe dry

3. Lubricate (if necessary)
If the spring gate latch begins to feel stiff, a little lubricant can help the gate return to normal operation. Avoid using sticky oils that easily attract dust. Maintenance is especially important when the carabiner is often in dusty or humid environments.
4. Regular Inspection
Inspect the carabiner before each use. Check for cracks, gate misalignment or signs of corrosion. Irregularities may seem minor, but they can compromise safety. A quick inspection may determine whether the safety support is secure or not, which may eventually lead to a serious failure.

5. Do not modify or engrave
Any modification to the frame or gate (e.g. engraving, sanding, reshaping) can create weak points or interfere with the anodized protective coating. Even cosmetic changes can cause long-term problems. Keep it as it was manufactured: solidly constructed and undamaged.
